Turkmen scientists have patented new technologies for the oil and gas industry

    18 Aug 26

Scientists from the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have developed and patented two new solutions for the oil and gas industry. These include a biological method for cleaning soils from oil products and a building material based on gas cleaning waste.

The first development is a method for the deep cleaning and restoration of soils contaminated with oil products. This method is based on the isolation and cultivation of special strains of local degradative microorganisms capable of breaking down heavy hydrocarbons in summer heat and soil salinity.

The use of this biological method allows replacing expensive and environmentally hazardous chemical reagents in the remediation of manmade pollution at oil and gas facilities.

Natural regeneration of the substrate through local microflora quickly returns the land to agricultural or commercial use and reduces the anthropogenic load on the ecosystem.

The second development is a patent for a formula for organomineral sulfur-polymer concrete, a material created using excess industrial sulfur, a waste product during natural gas purification at oil and gas fields. This is an example of import-substituting production. The material is characterized by high strength, high density and resistance to aggressive chemical environments and moisture.

The use of sulfur-polymer concrete opens up opportunities for hydraulic engineering, irrigation canals, saline water drainage systems and port facilities – areas where conventional cement concrete quickly deteriorates under the influence of salts. The use of this material not only reduces the cost of capital construction but also solves the environmental problem of sulfur waste disposal.
